New schedule next week – even shorter Mondays

by Andrew Howard - Principal 2 Comments »

It is incredible to think that we are in the home stretch…it has been a terrific year to date. Term three is well under way and all students seem to be primed for a successful end to the year, both academically and socially.

schedule.jpegAs you are well aware, the first Monday of each month, the school day is shortened to allow for a school staff meeting. On these days, the end of the school day is 2:36. In an effort to continue to provide the best educational institution possible for your children, it is paramount that we, as a staff, continuously grow in our learning and teaching.

To this end, the St. Andrew’s staff will be engaging in a monthly professional development series looking at new and creative ways of reaching our students in a variety of key areas by planning and working together. This focused professional development will serve as an opportunity for each teacher to look at his/her subject area, identifying ways in which information can be taught and learning received that will meet the needs of all types of learners that attend St. Andrew’s.

Due to the fact that the first Monday of each month is already a shortened day, the logical choice for engaging in this professional development as a staff is to shorten these days a little more. Therefore, for the months of March, April, May and June, the first Monday of each of these months will end at 1:30. Students will still receive all of their classes on these days, but the length of each period will be shortened (see attached). A reminder will be sent out, a note will be placed on the information board located on Fenn Avenue and a notice will be placed on the St. Andrew’s Blog one week prior to the shortened day.

We know that this focused learning and growing opportunity for St. Andrew’s teachers will not only support their professional development, but ultimately, provide even better teaching and learning opportunities for your children.

Thank you in advance for your support. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office, 416-395-3090.

Pizza Lunch – Wednesday, February 3rd

images.jpegOur second pizza lunch is being held Wednesday, February 3rd. It’s a great break from brown-bagging it on a cold winter day!! It’s only $5 for two slices of pizza, dessert and a drink.

Order forms were sent home this week and should be sent back to the school by Monday, January 25th. If for some unknown(!?) reason your child did not bring home an order form you can find one here.

A Note from our School Trustee:
Gerri Gershon’s Ward Forum – Wed. January 27th

by Gerri Gershon

I hope you will come out to the ward forum next Wednesday night at Grenoble Public School. We have invited terrific speakers to share their expertise on Testing – EQAO and otherwise. This session should interest Elementary, Middle Junior High and Secondary parents. Bring a friend, enjoy a coffee with parents in neighbouring schools and hear about what is happening at the Toronto School Board.

I hope to see you there. The agenda is in the attachment. Thanks.

images.jpegJanuary is Teamwork month at the Toronto District School Board. We have a great opportunity to use our excellent teamwork skills to provide outreach to survivors of the recent earthquake in Haiti. We have had a number of students take leadership in this area. Here are a few examples of what our students are doing to support these efforts: Read the rest of this entry »
