News for the Week ending Sept 26
by Sita Dubeau (Vice Principal) September 26th, 2008Lunchtime Supervision
We have noticed many St. Andrew’s students are visiting Owen P.S. schoolyard and the local ravine areas during their lunch hour. We would encourage you to remind your children to stay on school property as often as possible during lunch and break times. If students wish to leave our schoolyard during the lunch hour, we encourage them not to linger at the ravine areas or Owen schoolyard. In addition, skateboards should remain in student lockers throughout the day. Thank you for your support with these important safety issues.
Character Development Theme of the Month: Respect
On Monday, September 22nd, we introduced the theme of respect for self and others. This is one of the themes featured in the TDSB initiative Character Development. Students attended an assembly in which we focused on respectful behaviour, and also reviewed school policies for fire drills and lockdown drills in preparation for upcoming drills. Daily announcements will feature information for students about the theme of the month. Home forms will be involved in nominating students weekly who demonstrate respectful behaviour. Please click here for more information about Character Development and Safe Schools issues.
Magazine Sales
This week will be our half-way point in magazine sales for fundraising. QSP is encouraging the online purchase of magazine subscriptions this year. It’s easy to order this way. All online orders are credited to your child’s prize points. A big thank you to our parent volunteers Ms. Poole, Ms. Routhier and Ms. Pelegris.
ESL Parent Evening
On October 1st, St. Andrew’s will host an evening of information about our programs and policies for our ESL parents. Translators will be attending (Korean, Mandarin and Cantonese). Please click here for more information.
Job Posting: Tutoring
We received a job posting for a tutor this week from Linda (416-223-4474) who is the parent of a grade 4 student at Owen P.S. If your child is interested in tutoring, please call Linda.
Frosh Frolic
Grade 7 students will have an opportunity to participate in a variety of fun, spirit-raising activities during Frosh Frolic Play Day on Friday, October 3 from 1:31 – 3:11 during periods 6 and 7. Each class has an official colour, team name, cheer and song. Some of the many exciting activities include: Flag Tag, Obstacle Course, Squeeze the Keys, Rock, Paper, Scissors Baseball, 3-Legged Soccer, Popsicle Stand, and Umbilical Cord. A long-time tradition at St. Andrew’s, students are looking forward to this orientation afternoon.
